I'm holding and I'm on the river comes . I'd limped in with 3 others. My bet of $0.10 on the flop was met with two calls. A followup of $0.15 on the turn got one fold and one call.
On the river, given the low betting, I'm thinking I'm making a reasonable bet at $0.40 thinking I met get a call with a pair, or even two pair. Instead I get a raise to $3!
Was I being slowplayed? Did the guy manage to hit something? Or what? I decided to fold at the time. Was that wise?
Okay, the cards are:
I have two pair. It is a high pair so another two pair wouldn't beat me -- and in this case I suspect he might call, but such a large raise? If he had a pocket pair matching the board he'd have me. But I'd expect some higher betting activity before that.
I didn't play too timidly so he must think I have something. Thus I'll assume this might be a value bet. I can't see him waiting on three jacks, so either he has a pair of tens, or a straight.
Thus his hand must be , , or . He called to get in so I assume the two hands with 8 are out. From his viewpoint likely has 10 outs, for a pair, or the straight. That'd certainly be enough to call my first bet, but my $0.15 into a $0.50 pot on the turn? Rough calculation, he has about 20% chance to get his out, and pot odds are just under 20%. So I suppose yes.
Okay then. His betting was totally reasonable with two hands, both of which would beat me. Thus I'll assume I made a good fold.
